About Carol
How does Carol Crumrine create these unique images
and feelings we experience in her art?
Most of Carol's illustrations and portraits are painted from life. She is careful in her observation of light, along with choosing the medium of graphite, oil or acrylic.
"This poinsettia, bought for me as a special gift of shared love and cheer. I wanted to draw it in that spirit of love and cheer. I drew it first by the window as the light poured in creating a lacy glow. The leaves had a rich and wonderful color. I wanted to capture with paint the light and depth of red color. I think I did.
Usually with a painting I work on the under painting. I know the tones of gray and black are needed as a thin base before the many transparent paint colors should be worked on, show, or even shine."
Carol Crumrine
Formal art training began in the 1970's with
Minneapolis Art Instruction School,
Figure drawing at St. Petersburg Junior College, Florida,
followed by more individual art classes.
"Carol has a real talent. Her illustrations can have a subtly or great color that prints well. Her speed in working is terrific too."
